Trump is making his reign of terror official by eliminating any intention to protect minorities.
It’s been only a few hours since Donald Trump was sworn in as President of the United States and already the country is facing some major changes at the expense of minorities. In a shocking revelation, people have discovered that the WhiteHouse.gov website is now completely rid of the pages dedicated to civil rights, LGBTQ rights, and climate change.
What used to be pages reflecting the stance of the president on important issues minorities face are now gone, and only climate change has been actually replaced with something even remotely similar to the former page. To say that the new page, titled “America First Energy Plan,” resembles the old page would be generous, as the page makes no mention of climate change and has phrases like “reviving America’s coal industry” and “President Trump is committed to eliminating harmful and unnecessary policies such as the Climate Action Plan.”
Through this major change and the horrible Cabinet picks President Trump has introduced, it is clear that what most Americans feared for the future of the country is well on its way to becoming a reality.
Some speculate that a new page titled “Standing Up For Our Law Enforcement Community” is meant to replace the Civil Rights page. The former page used to outline concerns for police interactions with the black community, but the current page instead calls for “more law enforcement, more community engagement, and more effective policing.”
The page even goes so far as to say, “We will uphold Americans’ Second Amendment rights at every level of our judicial system,” which is specifically directed at law enforcement using weapons to protect themselves.
There is no equivalent or replacement page for LGBTQ rights because the administration has no plans to uphold or even acknowledge that this group of individuals has rights. In contrast, the White House website added more progressive pages on Barack Obama’s first day as president, as it reflected the issues he had focused his campaign on.
In addition to this damaging website change, President Donald Trump has also signed three executive orders, according to a tweet from White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer. The orders include approving General James Mattis’ waiver to become the Secretary of Defense, setting up a National Day of Patriotism, and formal nominations to the Senate.
This is just the beginning of the work Trump and his administration have set out to do, but it’s a horrible sign of things to come.
